DVLA Audit Awarded Us The Highest Rating

We are so excited to share some fantastic news! Drumroll please… We’ve been awarded the highest rating after successfully passing our DVLA audit! This is a major milestone in compliance and DVLA driver data security.

In this blog, we give you some context about why this achievement is so important and how it directly benefits our clients, their teams, and their candidates.

What Is the DVLA and Why Does It Matter for Employer Background Checks?

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) is an executive agency of the UK Department for Transport. It is responsible for maintaining the registration and licensing of drivers and vehicles in Great Britain.

The DVLA’s comprehensive database holds information on driving licences, vehicle registrations, and driver endorsements, ensuring that only qualified and legally compliant drivers are on the road.

How our DVLA Integration Streamlines Driving Licence Checks for Employers

EBC Global has a direct integration with DVLA, allowing us to provide our clients with access to complete driver information, ensuring the validity, status, and history of UK driving licences.

With just four simple steps, we’ve helped countless employers, recruiters, and HR managers streamline the UK Driver Check process, whether they’re running one check or a thousand. The steps? Consent, Verification, Reporting, and Repeat.

  • Consent: The candidate or employee provides their consent for the check. This consent typically lasts up to 3 years, after which it must be renewed in order to legally continue performing checks.
  • Verification: The driving licence details are verified against DVLA data records.
  • Reporting: The employer receives a detailed report listing the candidate’s driving history, including any convictions, penalties, or disqualifications.
  • Repeat: Automatically re-run DVLA Driver Checks as many times as needed until the driver’s 3-year auto-consent authorisation expires. This ensures ongoing compliance and addresses each employer’s specific risk preferences.

What Is a DVLA Audit and Why Is It Important for Background Screening Providers?

The DVLA audit assess the security and management of data, specifically registered driver licence data. It indicates that the organisation handling the data, like EBC Global, has a secure system with appropriate controls and measures to protect the data.

Our team attended the audit last Friday, and we were awarded a ‘Low – Strong Controlled Environment’ rating. While the word “low” might sound like the low rating, it’s actually the highest score a company can receive.

This reflects the low risk we pose to the DVLA and is a direct result of the strong controls we have in place.

To put it into perspective:

  • A High score would indicate a high-risk organisation to DVLA.
  • Our Low rating means DVLA has full confidence in our processes and data handling.

We wanted to share a huge thank you to everyone who supports our compliance and operational excellence behind the scenes – this is a fantastic achievement!
